Fines and Payments

Provided below is information to assist you in determining the amount of any fine due on any particular violation and to explain the available methods of payment of those fines.

Fines

The fines for the most frequently issued violations are listed on the back of the Summons. For violations not listed on the Summons you may click on the link below to access the complete listing of violations and fines from the State of New Jersey Judiciary online website. For local ordinance violations please call the Joint Municipal Court of Dover at 973-366-2200 ext. 137.
New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Fines

Failure to Appear or Pay Fine

If you fail to appear in response to your summons or to pay the penalty, additional penalties may result, a warrant may be issued for your arrest and your driving privileges in New Jersey may be revoked. If this is a parking ticket, your failure to appear or pay the prescribed penalty shall be considered an admission of liability and a default judgment may be entered against the owner of the vehicle.

Safe Corridor Fines

Please note that the State of New Jersey has designated all of State Highway Route 46 in the Township of Mine Hill as a "Safe Corridor". Under the laws governing Safe Corridors, certain violations incur double fines. The issuing Officer should have checked the red box marked "Safe Corridor" on the front of your summons. If your summons was issued on Route 46 please contact the Joint Municipal Court of Dover at 973-366-2200 ext. 137 for the correct amount of your fine prior to mailing any payment.

Payment at the Joint Municipal Court of Dover

Payments made at the Violations Bureau window, 37 North Sussex Street, Dover, NJ, are accepted in the form of Cash, Check or Money Order. At this time we do not accept credit or debit cards. Credit Card payments made be made on the State of New Jersey website as discussed below.

When paying by mail, only check or money orders are accepted. DO NOT SEND CASH. Please reference your summons number from the upper right hand corner of the summons on the check or money order.

Online Payments of most violations may be made by credit card on the State of New Jersey Judiciary's website at the link below. Local ordinance violations cannot be made on this website. The website will automatically calculate the fine amount due.

Points and Surcharges

Inquiries about points on your driver's license or insurance surcharges should not be made to the Municipal Court. The Courts do not assess points; they are assessed by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. Information on points, surcharges, etc. can be found on the MVC web site at the link below:
