The Official Website of the Township of Mine Hill

 Welcome to Mine Hill Township

Greetings from Mayor Sam Morris,

The Town Council & The Administration and Staff

The Township of Mine Hill is a beautiful residential community located in the northwest corner of Morris County. The Township is easy to reach via the midtown direct line of NJ Transit, which is available in nearby Dover, Interstate 80, US Route 46, and NJ State Highway 10.

We have an excellent K-6 school system with our grade 7-12 students utilizing the award winning Dover , NJ School System.

Now a thriving suburban community, Mine Hill was once a active mining center, with the first mining occurring in the early 1700s. The Dickerson Mine was owned and operated by Mahlon Dickerson, New Jersey's 12th Governor (1815-1817) and Secretary of the US Navy (1834-1838) and his family, and was the largest iron ore mine in the area. The mine supplied much of the ore used during the Revolutionary War period. At one time the township boasted some of the richest iron ore mines in the country. The last of the mines closed during the late 1960s.

With a current population of over 3,500, we continue to expand its services and facilities, while maintaining its small town atmosphere. Many of the township's residents volunteer their time and hard work to make Mine Hill a better place for us all. With it's senior and youth recreational programs, diverse population base, and safe family environment, Mine Hill is the ideal town to call "Home".

Homeowners in trouble should know how to get help. Many services can explain what needs to be done. Here's what many people do when they realize they can't make their mortgage payments: Nothing. "People don't even open their mail. They completely just don't face the situation. They figure if they don't look, then maybe it's not going on. Denial happens: says Tracee Lliiy, foreclosure counselor at the Dover-based Housing Partnership, a United Way agency that opened foreclosure services last November. Many regional and state centers and programs offer extensive help from certified foreclosure counselors for free. At the Housing Partnership they offer workshops and one-on-one counseling. Every possible effort is made to preserve home ownership. When that is not possible, help is available to reach out to their lender for permission to do a short sale. If you end up renting, the Partnership provides help in downsizing, making the financial transition, and finding suitable housing.

The Faith Fellowship Community Development Corporation based at Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center in Sayreville offers free services to New Jersans of all faiths. It offers workshops, bilingual services, and private one-on-one counseling sessions. In 2010, the CDC helped 500 people with intervention services, including preparation of loan modification applications and foreclosure mediation.

Everywhere in the foreclosure counseling world are warnings about scam artists who persuade people to sign over their homes or turn over thousands of dollars in return for a guaranteed loan modicifation. Some loan modification providers are unlicensed. Don't fall for scams!

Other advice - keep paying condo fees because they can foreclose on the lack of those payments too. Also, be sure to keep your homeowner's insurance current. That is in case there is a disaster affecting your home before a short sale can occur.

The Mine Hill Library has internet available during their public hours of Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Civic Center.

Mine Hill Recreation Sports Equipment Drive. Why buy new cleats and shin guards every year when last year's are like new. If we work together to recycle our old equipment to younger players in town, we all benefit. Any time the snack shed is open you can donate your old equipment and/or pick up some equipment for your child.

New Jersey's Clean Energy Program is coordinating a Refrigerator Recycling program for residents throughout the state of New Jersey.  This program provides a $30 reward and free pick up of old refrigerators and freezers for New Jersey residents. These old units are not only wasting energy, but money as well -- up to $150 a year.  And, through this program, NJCEP (in partnership with JACO Environmental) safely recycles 95% of each unit.  That means these units aren't going into landfills or back on the secondary market, but are being turned into items we use everyday, such as cell phones and laptops.  Residents can make an appointment for a free pick up by calling 1-877-270-3520 or visiting www.NJCleanEnergy.com.

Check the Mine Hill Recreation web site at www.minehillrec.com for current program information.
