MINE HILL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM

PASSENGER GUIDELINES

PARTICIPATION

 The Mine Hill Transportation Program is mainly for seniors with no other source of transportation.  These persons will be given first priority with regard to scheduling.  Those persons who have a valid driver's license and own a vehicle but seek participation in the program because they are temporarily unable to drive, will be considered, based upon the programs primary clients needs for transportation being satisfied.

 PARTICIPANTS IN THE MINE HILL TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM MUST RESIDE IN MINE HILL AND:

 1.      Be sixty years of age or older; or

2.      Be eighteen (18) years of age or older; and physically disabled or handicapped; and

3.      Any participant that has any condition that would prevent participation without assistance, including but not limited to immobility ; deafness or blindness must have a companion accompany participant to provide required assistance; and

4.      Make appropriate reservations with the Mine Hill Transportation Coordinator at 973-366-9031 ex. 41

 RESERVATIONS

 The Transportation Program operates Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Ledgewood Mall Only)  for breakfast at Burger King and grocery shopping at Shop Rite.

All reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the required transportation, but no reservation may be made more than 5 working days in advance of the required transportation.

 All reservations must be made through the transportation office, which is open Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The transportation phone # is 973-366-9031 ex. 41.  If no one is available to take your call, you should leave a message on the voice mail.  When leaving a message please make sure you speak clearly.  Leave your name, telephone number and a brief message with information regarding the transportation you need.  Your call will be returned as soon as possible.  Reservations can not be made with the driver.

 If you are making a transportation reservation for a medical appointment, it is your responsibility to find out from the medical staff about how long the appointment will take.  Advise the medical staff that you are using a Municipal Transportation Service and the transportation service needs to schedule your pick up and return time.

 

SERVICE PRIORITIES

 The following list represents the Mine Hill Transportation Program Servicepriorities. 

  1. Medical Appointment
  2. Shopping
  3. Social Services (Such as Adult Day Care)
  4. Hospital Visits
  5. Banking, Haircuts etc.

 GENERAL REGULATIONS

  1. Senior Citizens using the transportation must be able to walk to the vehicle and depart unassisted, unless accompanied by an assistant.  The vehicle drive will offer assistance when necessary to try to prevent falls and/or injuries. 
  2. All injuries/accidents must be reported to the vehicle driver as soon as possible when such injuries/accidents occur on the transportation vehicle.
  3. Wheelchair and disabled clients must be accompanied by an aide or assistant who should be less than 60 years of age but not younger than 18 years of age.
  4. For safety reasons, the transportation vehicle will normally pick up passengers at the sidewalk or driveway apron in front of the passenger's residence.  If the vehicle can safely pull out of the driveway, the vehicle may pull into the private driveway at the driver's sole discretion.
  5. The transportation vehicle will not operate when schools are closed due to inclement weather.  If the weather clears, and road conditions allow, medical services may be resumed at the sole discretion of the driver.  If transportation services are cancelled for any other reason i.e. driver sick etc. reasonable efforts will be made to notify scheduled passengers of the cancellation.
  6. The Township of Mine Hill Transportation Program and Transportation Drivers are not responsible for personal property left or lost in the vehicle.

PASSENGER REQUIREMENTS

 For a smoother and safer service to all, the following are required of passengers: 

  1. Passengers must be on time for scheduled transportation service.  Please try to be considerate and be ready when the bus is scheduled to pick you up.
  2. It is the responsibility of the passenger, family member or contact person to notify the transportation office of appointment cancellations as soon as possible. 
  3. Passenger aisles on transportation vehicles must be kept clear at all times. 
  4. Verbal/Physical abuse of the vehicle driver and/or other passengers will not be tolerated.  If you have a problem with the transportation services contact the Township Administrator at (973)366-9031 ex. 42
  5. Smoking, eating or drinking are prohibited on transportation vehicles.
  6. The acceptance of gifts, money or any type of gratuity by the vehicle driver is strictly prohibited.
  7. Alcohol or any illegal substance is prohibited on transportation vehicles.
  8. Passengers must remain seated and have seatbelts engaged while on the bus, except for boarding and exiting the vehicle.
  9. While the bus is in motion please do not try to engage the driver in conversation.  The drivers full attention must be on the safe operation of the vehicle.

The Mine Hill Transportation Program transports passengers within a ten (10) mile radius of the Mine Hill Municipal Building.

This bus does not transport people to work or transport children to school.
